Sin and Death

As a parent, I have never had to teach my children to lie, steal or be selfish. In fact, I have had to teach them not to lie, steal or be selfish. Because they are born of sinful parents, my children have sinned naturally without being taught to sin. This is the grim reality for all mankind; we are born sinners. When Adam sinned, he condemned all mankind to a sin nature and to the effects of sin.

Romans 3:10-12 says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”

As long as we live in this body of flesh, we will be at war with our sin nature. But God made a way for all mankind through Jesus Christ so that we no longer face sin’s eternal consequences. The utter despair of sin and its consequences reveal our absolute need for a perfect Savior. Our sinful state leaves us hopeless, but Christ offers hope to all mankind.

Paul sums it up very well in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

REFLECTION: Thank God that He does not leave us hopeless in our sin! Though we are unworthy sinners, He gave His Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior.
