The Celebration

“Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice,” Psalm 96:11, 12.

Have you ever been to a major sporting event or concert? Have you noticed that fans get somewhat exuberant and slightly crazy at these events? People will watch their favorite performer sing and be quite enraptured by that person. People will speak loudly and vehemently in support of their favorite sports teams. Let that favorite team hit a winning streak, and the praise will be unending. Parents are just as exuberant about their children’s teams. The point here is that no one will ever doubt how we feel about things in real life that excite us. They know because we show it.

Yet, on any given Sunday, thousands of Baptists gather to worship, and it can be hard to tell if they are attending a worship service or a funeral. Do not misunderstand; I am not suggesting anybody shout randomly or roll down the aisles. God said to do things decently and in order. But did you know that it never means to be a dead lump on the pew? Are you glad to be in God’s house? Are you glad He saved you?

This psalm is a celebration of God’s greatness. It may be a celebration of historical events, and some say it is a celebration of the time when Jesus will rule the earth from Jerusalem. Either way, everything rejoices. The earth itself and the things in it rejoice. The earth is celebrating because Jesus has brought salvation to it.

What about you? Does the fact that Jesus saved you gladden your heart? Do you ever show it or tell about it? If not, you need to.

JUST A THOUGHT
Are you glad that Jesus saved you? If you are, show the world so they can have that salvation.
