Deception Revealed

It is in our nature to seek our own; our own security, our own desires not to mention our own agendas. God, the Father, who proved His love for us by sending His only begotten Son to die in our place, desires that we seek the affairs of the kingdom. He is a diligent rewarder of those who seek Him first. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

God’s people must be always on the alert because our enemy is very cunning and obsessed with destroying God’s people. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Satan is very deceptive. “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Israel became caught up in the conquest of Canaan. They sought to take up the blessings of God into their own bosom, but rather than offer up the sacrifice of praise and the petition of further guidance, they found the company of their own wisdom adequate. People are often deceived by other people but even more so by their own hearts. “The heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9) even the carnal nature of one redeemed.

Joshua and his people were deceived because they did not seek the counsel of God. If they had simply communicated with God, who had already proved His love, He would have guided their steps as they planned their path to overcome all that was in front of them both near and far.

REFLECTION: Have you asked God to guide your path today so that you are not deceived by the things of this world?
