The Worship of the Lord

“But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice   Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah,” Psalm 68:3, 19.

I recently traveled to Israel, and it was a trip that has forever changed my life and has caused me to look at the Scriptures in a whole new way. While on this trip, I noticed other religious groups had built church buildings and monuments at a lot of biblically significant sites. With a lot of these structures, it seemed as though people were worshiping the site and not necessarily the God responsible for the miraculous or history- making event. While we can appreciate a historic site, we should never give it the worship that our holy God deserves.

While people have tried to find many different ways to worship the Lord throughout history, it is worth noting that objects do not give God glory, but His people do. This passage shows those who worshiped Him like the singers, players of instruments and the congregation of believers (verses 25, 26). When we think of reasons why the Lord should be worshiped, we are reminded of how much He thinks of us and makes plans for us and our lives. “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” (Psalm 139:17). We see how much He deserves our gratitude because of all the blessings we receive from Him, “the God of our salvation” (Psalm 68:19). This passage also shows how nations will worship the Lord and recognize the significance of the Lord being in His Temple in Israel (verses 29, 31, 32).

JUST A THOUGHT
If you struggle with a reason to worship the Lord with your life, how about starting with the fact that He is the God of our salvation.
