God and the Godly
“The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth,” Psalm 58:10, 11.
Many years ago, I had the opportunity to serve on a jury. It was a criminal case with twenty-one counts ranging from burglary to sexual assault and ultimately murder. The crime spree the defendant and his friends participated in had caused great harm to many innocent victims as well as their loved ones. The evidence was overwhelming, and after many hours of deliberation, we rendered a guilty verdict. Although the sentence of life in prison will never undo the damage that was done on that fateful night, justice for the victims was served which allowed the healing process to begin.
God is a God of judgment. When wicked behavior is punished and good behavior rewarded, the outcome is peace. Unfortunately, we are witnessing a world where evil is being promoted. “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil” (Ecclesiastes 8:11). The godly will rejoice when righteous judgment is executed. “Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times” (Psalm 106:3).
As God’s people, we need to stay true to the Word of God, stand for what is right and against evil. Due to the growing pressure of political correctness, many of God’s people have lost their boldness. Sadly, some have even begun to condone worldly ideas and embrace them as their own. Do not be deceived. Stay in God’s Word and judge righteously (John 7:24). Remember that love never rejoices in iniquity, but always rejoices in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6).
REFLECTION
Parents, remember, the teaching of right and wrong begins in the home.
