The Forerunner, John the Baptist

“And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he.
But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose,”
Acts 13:25.

“In a society where great value is placed on race, culture, social status and so on, it is often difficult to keep focus on the things that really are important. One is sometimes almost swept away by the accolades given and grand introductions made. Audiences with powerful people who will sit patiently and listen to whatever request is made, can boost pride. I once was introduced to a governor over an island with the words, ‘It gives me great honor to introduce to you, Governor, the President of the United States!”—Memoirs of a Missionary, Glen Knight

There is something about human pride that creates within us an intolerable attitude. The Bible gives examples of proud people and warnings against being filled with pride. It is in fact, one of the things fairly despised by the Lord! Read Proverbs 6:16, 17. Pride is the very root of original sin. It ultimately renders shame and from the very start, it makes the would-be servant of the Lord useless. Humility, on the other hand, gives us the perspective needed to impact our world. When we carry on our lives, relationships, and work with Jesus at the center, then we begin to see the changes He can make with us and the people around us. The example here of John the Baptist is vital. As we know from the Scriptures, he made the introduction of Christ to Israel. There was never such an important role given to any man! And it necessitated his stepping aside to give way to the One who really mattered in the affairs of men. It also required John giving up his following and his fame and to be content to fade out of sight. That is humility!

AN AMAZING TRUTH!
What we do humbly for the Lord will be rewarded!
