David’s Plea for Defense Direction
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God,” Psalm 43:5
As we read about the faithful servants in the Bible, we often tend to elevate them in our minds. However, men and women of faith such as David, Paul, Abraham, Sarah and so many others, were just as human as you and I are. David’s vulnerability in the Psalms is what makes him so relatable to our Christian lives. He was often in situations where his back was up against a wall, and he could see no way out. The surrounding nations were a continual threat, and many of his own trusted friends had turned against him. Sadly, even David’s own son, Absalom, was set upon killing him. I can only imagine how heartbreaking that would be to a father.
Once again, David cried out to Almighty God to defend and deliver him from the ungodly that sought after him and the nation of Israel. In his distressful situation, he felt that the Lord had cast him off (verse 2). Yet, he never lost hope but continued to pour his heart out to his God for direction. “O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me” (verse 3). You may be surrounded by trouble on every side, and you feel the Lord has abandoned you. He has not! Christ Jesus is right there. Call out to Him in faith, dear friend. Your circumstances do not change the promises and attributes of the Lord. He has promised He will never leave you nor forsake you, so trust His word (Hebrews 13:5). Cry out to Him for guidance and wisdom in the trials you are facing and believe that He will see you through.
REFLECTION
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way” (Psalm 37:23).
