The Lord’s Day and the Restrainer
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way,” 2 Thessalonians 2:7.
What generally happens when a teacher steps out of a classroom in school? I cannot speak for every situation, but generally, what happens is that the class erupts into chaos. Why is that? Because that is how sinful humans are. Most of us do not know how to act without direct, ongoing supervision. Even the good students will take advantage of the lack of supervision and act out. For adults, the same thing happens in the workplace; let the boss take a day off and watch the workers suddenly become slackers. Even good employees will often take at least mild advantage of the situation.
Our devotional verse can be confusing. One interpretation is that the world will continue to decline into sin and chaos, then believers will be raptured. The Holy Spirit, as He works today, will be gone, and then the real chaos will begin. The restrainer will be gone, and nothing will hold back the antichrist from doing with the world as he wishes. You may wonder what this has to do with you, since you will be gone at the rapture. Why should you even care what happens when you are gone?
Because it is not about you. Our very existence is all about bringing honor to God and accomplishing His will. His will and desire is that all would come to salvation. His method of achieving that is by the preaching of the gospel. He has given that job to us. So, yes, what happens after we are gone is your business. You are responsible for seeing that as many as possible leave with you. What are you doing with that responsibility?
JUST A THOUGHT
Our time to have any impact on this world is coming to an end. Are you redeeming the time?
