Reassurance of God’s Faithfulness
“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you,” 2 Thessalonians 3:3, 4.
As graduation season is upon us, these words in 2 Thessalonians are our prayer for the high school seniors around us. For the graduates who are in our care in some way, whether in our family or church, we have poured God’s Word into them since they were little. We have taught them numerous memory verses and Bible stories, encouraged them and modeled what following Jesus looks like in our daily lives. We thank God for them as their faith increases (2 Thessalonians 1:3). We pray for them as they suffer hardships that they stand firm in their faith (verse 11), and we encourage them with hope (2 Thessalonians 2:14-17). As they step into adulthood, we cheer them on and pray they remain faithful to the Lord because He is faithful. He establishes them and keeps them. We trust Him to guide them in their next phase of life.
Paul, Silas and Timothy wind down their second letter to the Thessalonians with reminders that the Lord is faithful. In all the ups and downs of life, He remains constant. Even when our faith wavers, He is our firm foundation. When the evil one attacks, the Lord guards us and establishes our footing. “For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken” (Proverbs 3:26). The team’s confidence was in the Lord, that He would keep them and help them continue to carry out the commands Paul and the others taught them. The Lord is faithful to keep that which is committed to Him (2 Timothy 1:12).
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
“But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you” (1 Peter 5:10).
