The Lord’s Omnipotence
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth,” Psalm 139:14, 15.
This is a beautiful psalm depicting a loving and caring God, a God who knows you, but still loves you. To have someone know you so intimately and deeply can be a scary thing. Very few people can say they have someone who knows everything about them. It is human nature to hide anxieties, insecurities and doubts for fear of being rejected.
The focus of this psalm is usually verse 14, giving thanks to God for being created. The whole psalm illustrates God’s power and the ability to see you and to know you. It is often said, “You cannot hide from God.” Even though this is true, how frequently do you try to hide by reasoning or making excuses for your sins? When you are unwilling to confess your faults and sins, then it is as if you are hiding. God knows your true nature; nevertheless, as you can see from this psalm, God thinks about you “more in number than the sand” (verse 18). If you do not love someone, then you rarely think about them.
The psalmist took delight in this intimate relationship—he hated the Lord’s enemies. The writer was getting the point across that he would not partake with anyone who hated God who created him and loved him. They were his enemies, too.
Because God knows you so well, you should not be afraid to ask Him to search you and know your heart (verse 23). You should let God reveal to you any hinderances that would keep you from fellowshipping with Him and serving Him.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Do not to be afraid to lay bare everything before God because He loves you!
