The Basis and Blessings of Trusting God
“While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being,” Psalm 146:2.
In the business world, trust is a huge issue. For the most part, services or goods offered tend to be in regard to features and prices. Sometimes that is not true, but for the most part, it is. If you aim to buy a widget, most widgets will be similar in price and quality. What makes the difference then? It is the non-measurable stuff that often makes the difference. One of the non-measurable things is trust. The question is often asked, “Why should we trust you?” Often the person with the best answer gets the deal.
God is trustworthy. When we ask why we should trust Him, we see the answer in the opening of His word, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). God created all of creation, and all of creation remains under His steadfast control. This is repetition, but nothing happens in the entire universe that is not caused or allowed by God. God never says, “Wow, I never saw that coming!” When times are tough, God is worthy of our trust because He is in control. When we have no hope, God is our hope.
Many have misplaced their trust; sadly, this includes many who profess to believe. They trust themselves, their families, their careers and politicians. On the other hand, David had things right in our devotional verse. David knew some things about tough times, and David knew some things about God’s trustworthiness. David also knew a bit about being tough and self-reliant; after all, God made David a great warrior and a king. If anyone had reason to rely on his own strength, David might have been that person. Yet, we have seen him put his full reliance on God.
JUST A THOUGHT
Who are you trusting, God or men?
