Living with No Restraints

Sin abounds. Even worse is that sin is celebrated and rejoiced in. If a celebrity wants to get pats on the back for their bravery today, all they have to do is admit some great sin they are caught up in. Rather than wondering what is wrong with that person, we congratulate them for accepting themselves. Today, everybody does what is right in their own eyes and it seems some things never change.

We really ought not to be shocked when the world acts this way because after all, the heathen is going to act like a heathen. The case is strong that they do not know a better way. After all, were not we the same before our glorious salvation by Jesus Christ? What is shocking is when believers act this way! We should know better because we are new creations in Jesus Christ. Yet, as we see in the narrative, God’s people sometimes fail Him. The world around them rejoiced in sin and iniquity, and God’s people jumped right in. A person looking from the outside probably would not know the difference between God’s people and the heathen among whom they live.

What about us? What would a person looking at our society from the outside see? Would they be able to tell the difference between us and the heathen around us? Sadly, the answer in many cases is a resounding no. Just like the Israelites, we often do what is right in our own eyes, rather than what is right in God’s eyes. God was not pleased about this then, and He is not pleased by it today. Will we make better choices than they did?

JUST A THOUGHT: Make your choice for the kingdom of God, not the world.
