Bless the Lord,O My Soul

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,” Psalm 103:1, 2.

The soul consists of the mind, will and emotions of a person. Basically, how one would think and the decisions that are made is a matter of the soul. It is the inner part of us that is quickened by the Spirit of God so the fleshly desires can be resisted and laid to rest so that God can be lifted up and magnified.

This psalm is a praise to God for many of His benefits which He gives to His children. It is a plea for you not to forget His many benefits, then it goes on to describe many of them. Your soul will bless the Lord as you focus on Him and give Him thanks and praise for all He has done for you and will do for you.

The Lord gives you many benefits. He loves you, and because He is gracious and merciful, He forgives and gives you good things. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17).

You bless the Lord because He is worthy. It also helps you to keep focused on Him. Many times, the children of Israel forgot His benefits. This was because they did not stay focused on the Lord. They allowed themselves to get caught up in the practices of other people. This is true of any child of God. If you do not stay focused on the Lord by being thankful to Him it will change your desires to do the things God wants you to do. We tend to forget all His benefits.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Take the time to bless the Lord with praise and thanksgiving and to be mindful of all the things He has done for you.
