A Prophecy of Vengeance
“For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul,” Psalm 109:31.
In this passage, we can see that humans, by nature, form into groups. God created us to have a social relationship with Him. Because of that, group forming is natural to us. Did you know that some group forming is good, and some is not good? We use terms like team building and community building to describe social groupings that are healthy and good. On the other hand, we use words like mob mentality, pack mentality and gang mentality to describe social groups that are not healthy. In these scenarios, people must fit precisely as the pack has determined is acceptable. If a person does not fit in, not only are they ejected from the pack, but the pack turns on them.
In this passage, everyone is out to get the psalmist, who has done nothing to deserve it. That happens sometimes. Have you ever been there? I think we all have. What should we do in situations like that? Well, the psalmist gives us the answer by song. We do what we should do in every case, good or bad. We should call out to the Lord to thank Him for His goodness, and we should call out to Him to deliver us from the bad things. We do not see the writer striking back at those who are after him.
Granted, he does ask God to take vengeance on them, but he never personally strikes back. Did you know that Jesus set that same example and took it a step further? As He died on that cross, He not only did not call “twelve legions of angels” (Matthew 26:53) to save Him, but He asked His Father to forgive them. What do you do when the pack comes after you?
JUST A THOUGHT
Remember that God always has your back when the world comes after you with its teeth bared.
