Supernatural Signs

At some point in our lives, we have probably all been given a task to accomplish that seems far outside of our ability to perform it. Conquering the Promised Land may have seemed like just such a task to the invading Israelite armies, after all, it was a large area and well populated by hostile people. Moving through the land and taking fortified places one at a time was going to be tough!

Joshua and the people had made an alliance with the king and people of Gibeon, and the Gibeonites suddenly found themselves under attack by another alliance of kings who were apparently upset about the alliance they had formed with the Israelites. They asked their new allies, the Israelites for help. We see in Joshua 10:4 that God assured Joshua that all would be well, and that He would secure the victory. Here, all the enemies in the area were nicely gathered in one place. All Joshua and the people had to do was go to war against them. There would be no chasing them all over the place becasue they were all there waiting. During the fight, it seems Joshua may have realized they needed a bit more time to totally defeat the enemy. Knowing God was behind them, Joshua spoke to the Lord and commanded the sun and moon to stand still and by divine intervention they did just that. Time stopped long enough for the job to be completed!

JUST A THOUGHT: When God tells us to do something, we can consider it already done; we just have to go along willingly.
