Great Things He Did
“But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea; and a great multitude from Galilee followed him and from Judea, and from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things He did, came unto Him,“ Mark 3:7, 8.
It says in Acts 10:38 that Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. Jesus did these things to show God’s love and power. In this devotional passage, you will learn of two great things Jesus did.
When Jesus healed a man with a withered hand on the sabbath, the Pharisees wanted to destroy Him. Their hearts were hardened because in their opinion He did not keep the Law. Yet, Jesus fulfilled the Law by loving and showing compassion toward others (Matthew 5:17). Even though the Law was important, some things were necessary and should not have been neglected. This is one great thing Jesus did to show you that you are not bound by the Law anymore, but rather you are called to demonstrate love. If you have an opportunity to do good but do not, it is not showing love, which above all is what God has commanded us to do.
After this, Jesus withdrew Himself with His disciples. Yet a great multitude followed Him to be healed. Healing was another great thing Jesus did. Many people followed Him, not because of who He was, but for what He could do. The unclean spirits who were possessing people knew who He was. They fell before Him saying, “Thou art the Son of God” (Mark 3:11). Not all seeking Jesus sought Him for who He was but rather for what He could do. Nonetheless, there were many that did believe on Him because of the miracles He performed.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: What is the greatest thing God has done for you? May you seek God for who He is and not just for what He does.
