Memorial Stones

There was a day when those we selected to be our leaders and examples were desired to be of the highest ethical and moral character. Of course, they were all human and subject to failure, but we at least expected them to be worthy examples. The same was true of other figures we looked to as examples to imitate and follow. Sadly, that does not seem to matter much these days. Today morality matters very little as long as they pander to our desires and wishes.

To be the selected successor to the great prophet Moses required a special man, and Joshua was to be that man. God had told both Moses and Joshua that Joshua was that man. Joshua also had a track record as being a faithful and brave follower of God and leader of men. To be the replacement for Moses required more credentials, so to speak, as Joshua had big shoes to fill following Moses. God provided those credentials to Joshua by stopping the flow of the Jordan River and allowing the Israelites to pass over on dry land. The people understood that Joshua was God’s man, because only God could do such a thing. Joshua was clearly working on God’s behalf.

Joshua’s only real strength was his willingness and readiness to follow God. God took that and gave Joshua the strength and skills to be a great and fearless leader. God likely is not calling most of us to lead a people into a hostile territory to take possession of it, but He is calling each of us to something. Just like Joshua, if we follow in faith and belief, God will empower us to accomplish whatever He has called us to do. We must answer yes; will we?

JUST A THOUGHT: We do not have to prove ourselves to others; if we are following God’s direction, He will do the proving.
