“Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey” (Psalm 76:4).
Fall is right around the corner, which means a new quarter of Sunday School is fast approaching. For those who use Bogard Press Adult Study Guide, the Fall quarter will not bring a big change in study but will continue with the second half of the book of Psalms—Psalms 73-150—in a study entitled, “Psalms of Boundless Praise Because of Deliverance.” The aim of this quarter will be to help the Bible student discover qualities in God’s holy character that evoke unbounded praise. The introduction of the Fall 2024 Adult Lesson Commentary gives insight as to why studying the Psalms is so important for the children of God:
“The book of Psalms has a benefit for every child of God in every age. It helps people understand how they feel and how they should act. It is good for our prayer life. Many examples of godly prayer are given in its pages. These people faced a variety of issues where they felt compelled to go to God with their burdens. Sometimes, these prayers were cries of desperation because the individual did not know where to turn. They cried out to God for an answer. These might have been prayers of vengeance or vindication. They might have been prayers asking God to provide or seeking God to guide. The Psalms give examples which God’s people can follow in prayer. The book is also good for our praise life. Throughout these pages are words which exalt God because He is worthy. Simply praising Him helps God’s people learn to get their eyes off themselves and on God. Praying and praising will help them with whatever problems they might face in life.”
Undoubtedly, Christians will face troublesome circumstances, both personally and nationally, during this upcoming Fall quarter. Our prayer is that through the study of Psalms 73-150, God’s people will find themselves prepared to face every trial with prayer and praise.
