The Lord,My Defense

“Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?” Psalm 94:3.

One of my favorite songs is “Farther Along.” A Constant theme in this song is the songwriter’s lament that there are some things about his life that he does not understand. Mostly, the writer does not seem to understand why so many people living around him who are living wicked and ungodly lives seem to be doing well while the children of God seem to be beset from all directions by trials and tribulations. The writer even includes this quote in the song’s opening verse: “Tempted and tried, we’re oft made to wonder why it should be thus all the day long. While there are others living about us, never molested, though in the wrong.” The truth is, many of us feel the same way as we look at the world around us.

Back in the day when this psalm was written, the Israelites felt the same way. This psalm was probably sung sometime after the return from exile and expressed exultation that God is faithful to preserve His people and to deal with those who harm God’s people. Some things never change. God is still faithful in protecting His people and dealing with those who bring harm to His people.

The problem for us is that we only see the right now. God sees the end from the beginning. When it seems God is not protecting us, He may be allowing our troubles because He has a plan for good to come from them. If you genuinely believe in God’s plan and truly believe He has promised a glorious eternity for you, then I promise the hard times will be easier. Do you believe those things?

JUST A THOUGHT
God is always watching out for those who belong to Him. Sometimes, deliverance requires patience on our part.
